The Zen Amplifier

Hi! I would like to present you my very first class A SE amp: the Zen in balanced version. Last year I finished this monster together with the BOZ and BOSOZ and also some another kind of amps. (Hiraga Monster, JLH1969, Gaincard, IonObelisk) The amplifier circuit itself was done using Kristijan Kljucaric's PCBs, which made things comparatively easy. These PCBs are laid out logically, they are very high quality and they also come with a helpful set of tips on mounting the fets and on which parts to use. The amp is operating faultless since the first turn on. Temperature on the heatsinks after 1 hour operating is around 65 degrees Celsius. Offset voltage under 15mV! No turn on "thump" or any other noise, the amp is deadly quiet on idle. The amp's weight is 20 kg. I use the amp with the BOSOZ preamp in balanced mode and with BOZ in SE mode, but it can operate direct with CD player too! I think I prefer the SE mode more, so the amp is not so "analytic". I like the 2nd harmonics in this way.... The sound: Sound is very nice! The overall performance is very good, it is outperforming many conventional HI-FI solid state or tube amps! The tonal character is very musical, but a bit "dark". The sound, very natural and transparent, detailed and also the micro dynamics are awesome. Soundstage is fine. It gives very powerful bass (well controlled) . It is really an audiophile amp ! And here is the part list: - 19" case made out of 5mm aluminum sheets - 1 transformer with 2x24V 630VA - capacitors 8x 10.000 µF 63V -2x 4 mH inductor - 4x irfp240 matched pair of Mosfet per channel, from Kristijan Kljucaric -10R/5W thermistor -1 blue led grin) At last - thanks to Mr. Pass and the Pass Labs crew for sharing their knowledge and to Kristijan Kljucaric for this nice design! Best regards: Norbert
